Airfield Lighting for the Royal Saudi Air Force
The self-contained low intensity system can be deployed in under 7 hours, supplying runway edge, threshold and approach lights, in addition PAPI's for a 4000 metre runway with a 300 metre taxiway.
The complete system is housed in a customised 20 foot ISO container, which can be transported on its own trailer or by C130 Hercules to the required destination. Divided into two insulated compartments, the unit is designed to operate in conditions up to 52°C ambient. The control centre is air-conditioned and installed with all the necessary equipment to set-up and run the lighting system. Both sections are fitted with sand filters and are equipped with customised stowage for all the ground lighting components, including 210 lights, 21 kilometres of cabling and mooring apparatus. The heavily insulated generator cell houses a 32kVA diesel engine together with a back-up energy supply to cope with power failure.
Before despatch, the two units were inspected by British Aerospace personnel to ensure conformance with the stipulated specifications and regulations.
